Periods are already so difficult, so why do we have to deal with rashes on top of the mood swings, bloating, and fatigue? Here are five simple steps to treat rashes caused by sanitary pads:
Switch to real cotton pads:
If you get a rash from your sanitary pads, discontinue use of your current pad brand and switch to real cotton pads. Most conventional pads in Pakistan claim to be “cottony soft” but don’t contain any cotton at all. Instead, these pads are made of polyester, plastics, and other synthetic materials that trap moisture and cause friction, leading to rashes and irritation. Parwaz pads are a good alternative. They have a 100% real and organic cotton cover that allows your skin to breathe and will help your rash heal.
Change your pad often:
Some brands advertise that you can change your pad after 8 hours. However, this is not good for you. Changing your pad every four hours will prevent bacteria and moisture buildup and can significantly improve rashes.
Wear loose and real cotton underwear:
Just like you can wear real cotton pads, you can switch to real cotton underwear, as tight polyester underwear can irritate your skin further and prevent healing.
Apply a cold compress:
If your rash is burning, painful and inflamed, apply a cold compress for immediate relief.
Apply a soothing cream:
To help your skin recover, apply a fragrance-free and soothing gel or cream to calm the irritated area. Some options include:
- Zinc oxide cream
- Pure aloe vera gel
- Calamine lotion
